Dr. Angelica Guajardo, LMFT, EXAT, PsyD, is a trauma-informed psychotherapist and expressive arts therapist and the founder of Expressive Arts and Psychotherapy of the Desert. She provides therapy for children, adolescents, adults, couples, families, and individuals with special needs, offering a compassionate, creative, and client-centered approach to mental health and emotional healing.
Dr. Guajardo specializes in trauma-informed therapy, expressive arts therapy, traditional talk therapy, couples therapy, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. Her approach is based on the belief that healing is not one-size-fits-all. Every person processes emotions and experiences differently, and therapy should be tailored to the individual, not the other way around.
Expressive arts therapy is a unique therapeutic approach that integrates psychology and creativity to help individuals express emotions that are sometimes difficult to put into words. This may include art, painting, drawing, music, movement, writing, storytelling, sand tray, play therapy, and other creative forms of expression. Expressive arts therapy is especially helpful for individuals who have experienced trauma, grief, anxiety, or emotional challenges because it allows the brain and body to process experiences in a safe and creative way.
As a trauma-informed therapist, Dr. Guajardo focuses on creating a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment where clients feel comfortable exploring their experiences and emotions at their own pace. Trauma-informed therapy emphasizes emotional safety, trust, empowerment, and collaboration, helping clients move from simply surviving to healing, growing, and thriving.
Dr. Guajardo has extensive experience working with children, teens, families, couples, and individuals with special needs. She understands that each stage of life comes with its own challenges, and she works closely with clients to build coping skills, improve communication, strengthen relationships, and develop emotional resilience.
At Expressive Arts and Psychotherapy of the Desert, therapy may look different than what people expect. Some sessions may include talking, while others may include art, creative expression, mindfulness, play, or storytelling. The goal is to meet clients where they are and provide them with the tools and support they need to heal, grow, and better understand themselves.
Dr. Guajardo’s mission is to provide a safe place where people of all ages can express themselves freely, work through difficult life experiences, and rediscover their strength, creativity, and sense of purpose.
Healing can happen through words, through art, through creativity, and through connection — and sometimes when words are not enough, art can speak.
